Founded in 1946, the Sooke School District is located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island in the Greater Victoria Area of British Columbia. This world-class Canadian public school district offers excellent academic programs and access to nearby urban cities of Vancouver and Seattle, while also keeping the natural beauty of Vancouver Island. There is a wide variety of courses offered in the Sooke School District with Advanced Placement and Pre-AP Programs for students to work towards gaining credit. Students are also offered dual credit university level courses offered right at their High School and a French Immersion Program. In addition to this rigorous academic options, students can take electives such as foods and nutrition, film and television studies, marketing, psychology, and environmental studies, among others.
FACILITIES
Schools in the Sooke School District have impressive facilities with two of their schools being built in the past 5 years; one of their schools even has a rooftop basketball court. These modern, state-of-the-art schools are in amazing locations such as overlooking the Pacific Ocean or the Olympic Mountains of Washington, USA. Some of the facilities in these schools include a television studio, a theater, track and field complex, an artificial turf field, and one school has an entire grey whale skeleton in the foyer.
SPORTS AND ARTS
Popular sports in the Sooke School District include Soccer, Cheerleading, Basketball, Rugby, and more. Schools in the Sooke School District also offer specialized Academy Programs, where students can focus on developing their athletic skills during the school day. Academies included at these schools are: Soccer Academy, Dance Academy, Lacrosse Academy, Golf Academy, and Ice Hockey Academy. Students also have the opportunity to join the Recreational Activity Program with activities like skiing, climbing, surfing, rowing, curling, and snowboarding.
Schools in the Sooke School District have award-winning music and arts programs with special programs and courses in Concert Band, Jazz Band, Vocal Jazz, Drumline, Dance, Theater, and Performing Arts.

On the Southern tip of Vancouver Island, the Sooke School District is situated in the Westshore communities of Langford, Colwood, Metchosin and the seaside village Sooke, just a 25-minute drive to downtown Victoria, the capital city of British Columbia. These communities offer many amenities such as sports and recreation complexes, shopping centers, parks, and many beautiful lakes, beaches and coastlines for which western Canada is famous. The United Nations calls this region one of the world’s best places to live, most likely because of the beautiful scenery and lively community. Students at Sooke School District Schools have the opportunity to travel with school supervision to Vancouver, Seattle, Whistler and Pacific Rim National Park; all in close proximity to the school.
