Located along the central west coast of Vancouver Island, School District 70’s Alberni District Secondary School (ADSS) offers students a beautiful living environment with challenging academics. ADSS offers a Canada Hockey Skills Academy, an early French Immersion program, a leadership, a forestry program, and dual credit courses in partnership with Vancouver Island University and North Island College.
FACILITIES
In 2012, ADSS opened a new state-of-the-art facility that offers media labs and modern classrooms with a university feel. The school has a ten-acre campus that features a 500- seat theatre, an artificial turf field, two gymnasiums, a fitness room, and a dance studio.
SPORTS AND ARTS
The district offers the Canada Hockey Skills Academy that has produced many Canadian “Junior A” athletes. For all skill levels, the academy offers boy and girls the opportunity to work on the fundamentals of hockey while receiving Physical Education credits. Other individual and team sports are available for students to participate in, including a strong wrestling program that has produced Olympian Travis Cross.
Fostering creativity for their students, the district offers art and music as curricular and extracurricular classes. The fine arts curriculum adds classes in drawing and painting, ceramics and sculpture, media arts, as well as textiles and crafts.

School District 70’s athletic coordinator is award-winning, and its wrestling coaches and program have been highly recognized throughout the province for their outstanding contribution to the sport.
