Almost 30% of Australians are born overseas, making it a multicultural country.
With around 420,500 international students in 2019, Australia is one of the top destinations for overseas students, following the United States and the U.K. Australia holds seven of the world's top 100 universities, including the Australian National University, University of Melbourne and University of Sydney.
Since Australia is in the southern hemisphere, the seasons are opposite to those in the northern hemisphere. Winter in Australia is from June to August, while summer is from December to February. Generally, the north is hot and tropical; the south is temperate and sub-tropical; while the center is arid.
The cost of living in Australia varies significantly between cities. For example, accommodation in Sydney is higher than in other Australian cities such as Melbourne and Perth. In general, living costs in Australia are higher than in the U.S., but lower than in the U.K.
